Tips For Owners

Tips for investment property owners

Owning an investment property is an exciting thing.

And like most exciting things in life, it comes with a few risks – and responsibilities.

It might be a ‘set and forget’ exercise in terms of an eventual capital gain.

But it’s the opposite when it comes to keeping the property in good condition.

Because of course you want to attract good tenants.

And keep them safe, happy and renting for longer!

Getting the basics right

As a property landlord, there are a few regulations you’ll need to follow:

  • Smoke detectors must be installed in your home/unit
  • Two RCDs (residual current devices, or circuit-breakers) must be installed on the electrical switchboard
  • Front door should have a lockable deadbolt
  • Your entrance must have a security light that comes on at night (doesn’t have to be a sensor)
  • Window blind cords need to be able to be secured
